Made up of Henrique Gomide (piano, rhodes, synth), João Fideles (drums) and Noa Stroeter (bass, eletric bass), the trio explores rich rhythmical Brazilian landscapes, combining them with modern Brazilian jazz trends.

The project started out in 2007 around University of Sao Paulo, where Henrique and João studied classical music. In 2012 both went to the Netherlands and were joined by Noa, after the Royal Conservatory of The Hague awarded the tree musicians scholarships to study their masters in Jazz.

Two albums were released in honor of great masters of Brazilian music: Enigma - a Música de Garoto (2018, Pau Brasil Music) is a contemporary update on the works of Garoto (1915-1955), bossa nova’s and Brazilian modern guitar’s pioneer. Misturada (2014, Pau Brasil Music), Caixa Cubo’s fifth album, was released on 2014 - a tribute to Brazilian music masters, revisited with a renewed samba jazz language. The album features two of the greatest Brazilian solists as special guests, Teco Cardoso (baritone sax / flute) and Nailor Proveta (clarinet).

Years later they released Saturno (2018), where the trio embarks on a dizzying improvisation machine. With synthesizers, keyboards, electric bass, the album is aesthetically parallel to that of two previous albums, Quartzo (special feat. Celio Barros and Lourenço Rebetez) and Canil_ (recorded in duo by Fideles and Gomide).

2012 was the first album released by Caixa Cubo. Acoustic, contemporary and highly improvised, had tracks recorded in duo and trio: with Arthur Decloedt (bass) and Celio Barros (bass) on improvised performances over two themes by Claude Debussy.

The trio’s seventh album. Angela (Heavenly Records), was chosen by BBC 6 Music presenters, Gilles Peterson and Bandcamp as one of their albums of the year for 2020.

Their new album "Agôra" featuring many international collaborations will be released on Jazz & Milk in early 2023.

instagram | www.caixacubo.com.br

JAZZ & MILKtag:jazzandmilk.com,2005:Post/70427192022-08-21T15:46:56+02:002022-08-29T15:45:57+02:00IFSONEVER
Between film, music & sound „ifsonever“ aka Daniel Helmer is continuously redefining his essence as an artist. Expanding boundaries, pursuing the unheard and breaking genre definitions are byproducts of his curiosity and his drive to avoid repetition.

Emerging from a punk rock background, Daniel was part of a couple of garage bands since his early teenage days. The world of electronic music soon caught his ear and the endless soundscapes enabled by synthesizers triggered his creativity. Besides his studies at the Film Academy Vienna (under Michael Haneke, Christian Berger & Michael Hudecek) starting 2009, Daniel experimented with electronic music and refined his skills as a producer.

After a decade of touring Europe as a founding member of „Gudrun von Laxenburg“ (est. 2009), a live electro-punk spectacle that created a buzz big enough to be picked up by legendary record label „SKINT Records / BMG“ (UK) - (home of „Fatboy Slim“) and releasing the album „PANIC!“ (2017), Daniel aspired to evolve and reshape his artistic output.

The result, a collaboration with partner in crime Sam Irl: „Mantra Mantra“. Between Techno & Toto, the EP „Funke“ (2019), released on „International Major Label“ (AT), takes you on a wavy road of slow burning underground club music.

Subsequently the project „Yogtze“, together with friend & colleague Daniel Meuzard (aka Feater) was born. Released on Gerd Janson ́s esteemed label „Running Back Records“ (DE), this self titled EP (2020) offers a truly analogue & timeless trip into synth heaven.

Due to Daniel Helmer ́s background as a filmmaker and his growing interest in exploring new musical languages he decided to dive into the vast ocean of composing music for film. in 2021 Daniel composed & produced the score for two Austrian feature films: „Rubikon“ (together with Wolf-Maximilian Liebich) directed by Leni Lauritsch & „Heimsuchung“ directed by Achmed Abdel-Salam. He also dipped into theater productions and composed & performed for two stage plays in 2020 & 2021 together with Michael „Pogo“ Kreiner.

In the midst of the global pandemic early 2020, Daniel began working on music in his garden shed studio. Driven by the idea of creating his own, without having to compromise or living up to expectations a thesis transpired: Create music that is decoupled from the idea of exploitation. If so never it was released, what could emerge? „ifsonever“ was conceived and in opposition to its initial thesis the self-titled album will be released in fall 2022 via „Jazz&Milk Records“ (DE).

Instagram | www.thehelmer.com

JAZZ & MILKtag:jazzandmilk.com,2005:Post/64864092020-11-26T23:36:18+01:002023-12-10T18:04:15+01:00BONGANI GIVETHANKS
Bongani GiveThanks an all-round spiritual musician with an experimental approach to the concept of music. The passionate DJ dedicated the past four years extensively researching Brazil’s broader spectrum of musical styles and slowly started to introduce more and more African and indigenous elements in his DJ sets. Encouraged by the great acceptance and success during his shows he decided to curate his first compilation project on Jazz & Milk to share his discoveries with the world.

Levanta Poeira (Afro-Brazilian music & rhythms from 1976 – 2016) highlights a few of his favourite DJ pearls and encompasses Brazil’s various regional musical styles influenced by African and Amerindian forms. While most foreign music lovers tend to approach Brazilian music by having American music genres such as Jazz, Soul, Funk, Disco as a reference, Tahira’s personal wish was to showcase the rich musical roots and facets of his country by featuring carefully selected artists and bands from the past 4 decades. A highlight is certainly Tahira’s “A Toda Menina Baiana” remix (vinyl-only) of one of Brazil’s absolute musical heroes, Gilberto Gil.

“Levanta Poeira” is a popular Brazilian expression meaning "kick up dust." This is a phenomenon that can be found throughout the country, a cultural manifestation that exists where people gather to play, dance and party. Earth is hit by the foot of the dancers raising a cloud of dust. It is a sign that the heat of the Brazilian spirit is present!

JAZZ & MILKtag:jazzandmilk.com,2005:Post/62382002020-03-05T01:00:00+01:002023-12-10T17:55:21+01:00DUSTY
Dusty, labelhead of Jazz&Milk, proves that an artist need not simply commit himself to a genre or two but ups the ante considerably by featuring a broad spectrum of musical styles, bringing together his favourite leanings such as jazz, soul, afrobeat, dub, disco, boogie, broken beat and raw house rhythms, while seeking a natural balance between accoustic, electronic and traditional sounds through the prism of a club-music oriented approach.

His label and its associated clubnight „Jazz&Milk“, represent an integral component of German club culture, having hosted international luminaries such as Mr. Scruff, Max Graef, Romare, Clap Clap!, Débruit, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Quantic, Sofrito Soundsystem, Lefto, Simbad, Poets Of Rhythm, Karl Hector & the Malcouns and many others.

As A&R he's responsible for many successful releases on Jazz & Milk featuring artists such as Steve Spacek, Sam Irl, Moe Fabrik, Àbáse x Zeitgeist, Session Victim, Feater and many more...

From his collaborations with and influences from such creative and versatile producers and DJ’s, to his live performances with the Bad Jazz Troupe, to spinning vinyl records, to hosting a monthly radio show on dublab.de, these experiences have all combined to generate the unique sound found in Dusty’s productions. As a passionate DJ, he travels the world consistently, having performed for audiences in New York, London, Madrid, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Saigon, Manila or Johannesburg.

He cleverly manages to move dancefloors with an individual and positive twist, not by submitting to musical clichés, but by always seeking a distinctive sound, one that blends sophisticated old and contempary dance music.

Disregarding any kind of mindless rule – musical or otherwise – this reckless band revamps traditional rhythms and styles with modern production techniques. The Bad Jazz Troupe brings together raw Afrobeat, Jazz and Funk elements with the latest achievements of the electronic revolution in the world of music. The result sounds fresh and original and yet reminds one of those days when Jazz was still something unruly, naughty and rebellious. What the Bad Jazz Troupe seeks to accomplish, after all, is nothing but bad jazz in the best sense.

The initiators of the project are two „bad“ boys in otherwise quiet and peaceful Munich, Germany. Jerker Kluge, much sought-after bassist and composer (The Boogoos, The Hi-Fly Orchestra, Cesar´s Salad, Radio Utopia), provides an invaluable musical basis with selected players of the local Jazz and Funk scene. Their organic sound is infused with energetic beats and hypnotic loops by Dj, producer and labelhead Dusty (Jazz & Milk). Already in 2009 he created a dancefloor hit by remixing the Afro-Funk of The Boogoos. Back then Jerker and Dusty decided that they will continue acting in collusion and so they founded the Bad Jazz Troupe.

In the band’s live performances highly skilled and creative musicians merge sophisticated arrangements with brilliant improvisations on top of Dusty’s inimitable percussive beats.
Purists also get a chance to experience this sound at thome: on the A side of the vinyl EP they will find an electroacoustic fusion of musicians and producer and on the B side the original studio recordings of the band.

Keep your eyes open for upcoming live gigs and an entire album by the Bad Jazz Troupe.

JAZZ & MILKtag:jazzandmilk.com,2005:Post/62431662020-03-03T00:55:00+01:002023-12-10T17:42:41+01:00THE JIVERS
Born Toulouse 1966, Don Pascal started mixing in Paris in the early 90´s, at the same time he was dedicating himself to the promotion of black music artists, who hence had a hard time signing with french record companies.

From the beginning, his musical selections where clearly defined : the grooviest within the black and latin music, whether it is Funk, Jazz, Soul, Hip-Hop, House, Salsa, Latin Jazz or Brazil...

His models where then Gilles Peterson and his friend Loik Dury, DJ and selector of the excellent Radio Nova. He also hanged on with Gilb´r (also part of the Nova Team and later creator of the Versatile label), and Marthe Lagache, an ex-model, star of the Parisian nights and promoter of the best parisian parties of the time, like the legendary “Zoopsie” parties in Bobino that were something like a parisian Studio 54.

In 1991, Don Pascal promoted for a short time some parties at The Palace, the legendary parisian club of the eighties, opening the doors of the venue to Reggae/Dancehall, Funk and African music artists, something quite exceptional at the time. He also shared turntables with african DJ´s playing a mix of Funk, Congolese and Nigerian music.

During the nineties Don Pascal performed in various venues for Nova Productions, What´s Up Events, Marthe Lagache... (Bataclan, Hopital Ephémère and many underground places used for a one shot party).

At the same time, between 1992 and 2000, he collaborated with Sony Music and Virgin Music, working on the sales promotion of artists like Air, Michael Jackson, Fugees, Cypress Hill, Marsalis brothers, Massive Attack, Keziah Jones, Horace Andy and many more...

In 2003 Pascal decided to move to Barcelona and get ready to produce his own music.

It´s in the middle of this process that he met Fred Spider in a record convention. Soon after, they started to produce music together under the name of The Jivers. Their first release : “Do What” feat. Anqui, a clubby jazz-hit out on Jazz & Milk Breaks 3.

They have become renowned for their energetic live shows, rich harmonies, and beautifully crafted songs.

After initially meeting on the festival circuit in New Zealand, where both were key players in their respective cities, Mahal and Brown moved independently to Brooklyn in 2007 where they met up again to form Fredericks Brown. In each other, they discovered a passion for storytelling; writing songs that combine imagery and narrative, which they interpret with a stunning blend of strength and intimacy that draws the listener close.

Their music fuses the cultural heritage of both musicians; Deva, daughter of legendary blues musician Taj Mahal, draws on her rich soul and blues roots. Steph’s sound is rooted in the organic Pacific sound of her native New Zealand. In 2009 the duo were joined by fellow New Zealander Michael Taylor, a sublime trumpet player and guitarist who had just graduated with a Masters from the Manhattan School of Music.

Between them they have worked with Kanye West and Common, billed with such acts as De la Soul, Alice Russell, and Etta James, and have performed in theaters and clubs all around the world.

JAZZ & MILKtag:jazzandmilk.com,2005:Post/62431692020-03-01T00:55:00+01:002023-12-10T17:59:43+01:00MR CHOP
With previous releases on Jazzman’s Stark Reality label and Ape Records Mr. Chop’s upcoming projects include collaborations with Stones Throw/Now Again The Heliocentrics and other works with The Heliocentrics producer Mike Burnham.
